THE SCENARIO

HOMEPAGE

Our given location to work with is the Prinsenpark, in the Alexander district of Rotterdam. It is a green place in a neigbourhood filled with houses and appartment buildings. It stands out in it's surrounding as a peacefull place for the locals to spend their spare time with friends or just take a walk alone to enjoy the nature in the city.

The concrete sculpture in the middle of the water from Landscape Architect Frans de Wit is a remarkable element in the park.

In our project, we took this sculpture as the starting point for a world in 2050, after the collapse.

The document we found, on the right, gives us backgroundinformation about the sculpture and the meaning of the rectangle in the middle, that refers to the lowest point of the Netherlands.

The last resort is a place, located in the ruins of Rotterdam that was saved from the collapse. In the time before the apocalypse, this project was the hope for a better future. It was a huge experiment to interact and in a way control nature by using technology, to prevent the end of mankind.

By the time the scientists succeeded, climate change couldn't be stopped, and the circumstances on earth got worse, untill almost all the life on the planet was made impossible. In the last few years, little communities existing of the rich and elite combined with scientists built all around the world a network of bunkers and infrastructure, all underground. The control system was made the center of this new world, a safe haven that turned out to be the only place where nature survived the collapse and a port to fresh air and sunlight. The control system couldn't prevent the collapse, but it was able to save the communities around the world, controlling all organisms above and underground.
